Get Ready for ICBS 2025 in Yogyakarta!

The 9th International Conference on Biological Sciences (ICBS 2025) will take place on 17–18 October 2025 in Yogyakarta, carrying the theme “Unraveling Biodiversity through Multi-Omics Integration: From Genes to Ecosystems.”
Before the main conference begins, join us for an immersive two-day pre-conference workshop that brings together the best of both worlds — hands-on wet-lab library preparation and cutting-edge bioinformatics analysis for metagenomics and phage mining.
This workshop is designed for conference participants that are eager to bridge experimental and computational workflows, gain practical experience, and build collaborations ahead of the main event.
Dates: Wednesday–Thursday, 15–16 October 2025
Time: 08:00–17:00 WIB
Venue: Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta
This workshop is co‑hosted by ICBS 2025 and Integrated Genome Factory (IGF)

Program at a Glance
Day 1 — Wet Lab Workshop (IGF × ONT)
Date: Wednesday, 15 October 2025
The wet-lab workshop will focus on direct hands-on Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) library preparation, guiding participants through each stage of the workflow using pre-extracted DNA from soil and environmental samples. Participants will gain practical experience in preparing high-quality metagenomic libraries and will take part in a live loading and run setup on the ONT PromethION. This immersive session offers a complete overview of the sequencing process — from ready-to-sequence DNA to real-time data generation. The workshop is jointly organized by the Integrated Genome Factory (IGF) and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT).
Day 2 — Bioinformatics Workshop (Bent Petersen)
Date: Thursday, 16 October 2025
The second day shifts from wet-lab work to data analysis, focusing on metagenome analysis and phage mining led by Bent Petersen from the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics, University of Copenhagen. The morning session will introduce participants to metagenomic workflows using KBase, covering quality control, assembly, and binning. In the afternoon, participants will explore phage detection and characterization using advanced tools developed by the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics, gaining hands-on experience in uncovering microbial and viral diversity from metagenomic datasets.
Registration
Participation in the pre-conference workshop requires registration for the 9th International Conference on Biological Sciences (ICBS 2025). By joining the workshop, you’ll gain full access to four days of events — two days of immersive hands-on training (workshop) and two days of scientific sessions (conference).
- Seats are limited. Early registration is strongly recommended.
- Fees are provisional and subject to confirmation by the Organizing Committee.
- Successful registrants will receive a payment link and invoice by email.
